Friday we moved the crib out of Hannah’s room and into Clara’s room. Hannah has been sleeping in the toddler bed for naps and night time since then. She had been sleeping in both before… with more time in the crib than the “big girl bed” so it was time for more decisive action. Also, Clara has outgrown her Amby bed. She was waking at 3 or 4 in the morning, every morning, for a week. She always needed a bottle before going back to sleep. Friday night she slept all night long, didn’t wake til 7 am. So she is definitely ready to be able to spread out while she sleeps. Hannah doesn’t seem broken up about losing the crib. She does need more help to fall asleep. Mom or Dad going in to rock her, or put her back in bed before finally settling down for the night seems to help.
Hannah is stuck in the same place with potty training. She goes in the toilet if she’s not wearing a diaper or panties. But if she is wearing panties, sometimes she doesn’t realize she needs to go to the bathroom til it’s too late. When I get serious about training her, I think I will give her a little reward for going in the toilet when she’s wearing panties…maybe an M & M or a gummy bear. However, I think she needs a little more time to adjust to the bed situation before hitting the potty training hard. Also school starts in about 2 weeks, so she will have another big change then. I want to force the issue before then, but I know it’s probably not the best course of action.
Clara is doing well. I need to schedule her 6 month doctor visit. She officially turned six months July 18, but because I took her for her 4 month checkup late, I need to wait til the end of August to take her for her six month shots. I am curious to see how much she weighs and where she falls on the charts. She seems big, but I look at other people’s babies the same age, and she really isn’t that big. In comparison to Madelyn, Madison, and Hannah at that age, she seems big. She is trying to learn how to hold her own bottle. We tried a couple of other bottles with her because I’m tired of the ones I’ve been using. They are the kind that require liners, Playtex Drop Ins. I liked them while she was nursing because they kept her latching correctly when she nursed. But now that we’re done nursing, I don’t need to protect her latch. The biggest bottle in that style only holds 6 ounces, and we only have 4 bottles, which is not enough to get to get through the whole day. I’m constantly washing nipples and buying liners. So I busted out some bottles we had when Hannah was a baby. She’s doing really well with the Munchkin Tri-Flow nipples. Hannah really did well with them too. I wanted to buy new nipples. I had seen a few when Clara was first born and picked up a packet or two, but each packet only has 2 nipples in it, and one ring. So I saved my old rings.I’ve been looking for more when I go to Meijer and Target and Walmart, but they are not to be found. So what to do? Make do with the assortment of bottles I have? Get some regular Gerber or Parents’ Choice ones, in the larger size and buy the fast nipples for them? Eh. She only has 6 months left of bottles. I’m not buying a new line of expensive ones. Maybe one package to augment our collection, but not a whole new line.
What else? I’ve been sort of absent from the internet lately. The computer is in Clara’s room… so I don’t type when she is sleeping. And I detest the laptop… I have had to move my cursor 12 times already in this entry because a thumb sweeps the mouse pad and moves it to the middle of the entry instead of the end of it where I started my sentence… That and my class. I took a six week summer course for my ESL/bilingual endorsement. It was quite demanding, and I worked really hard. I got an A though, so maybe it was worth it.
There is more, but Hannah is lamenting her teddy bear who is at Nana and Papa’s… so I need to go settle her down.
Well. She’s settled. Possibly only temporarily. But settled none the less.
Since my class ended, I’ve been reading a lot. I finished the first two of Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. I know my time for reading will be ending soon, so I’ve been reading voraciously. Tomorrow I intend to get to the library to pick up the third book. I am also planning to go to school and work on moving some of my things to my new classroom. I will be sharing the room with another teacher, and only teaching in it part of the day, as she will be teaching in it part of the time and in another room part of the time. I’m glad I will at least be teaching mostly the same classes I taught last year. I will have one new class, Transitions, which is for newcomers to help orient them and help them adjust both to life in middle school and in the United States. I don’t know what the curriculum is, but I think it is flexible, depending on what the students in the class need. It will probably be a small class also.
If I had book three, I’d go to bed and read… as it is, I guess I will just be going to bed. I still hear Hannah flipping pages in a book. I probably won’t be able to fall asleep til she does, and I don’t know how many more times she will be up. It’s almost 11 already. Also, I think Clara will wake up for a bottle tonight because she didn’t take her last one before she fell asleep. She was just too tired. I figured she’d wake up after an hour, but she hasn’t yet. Wish me luck. And sleep.
