infection central

Took Clara back to the doctor today Clint went too, because he was so sick he stayed home today. The pediatrician looked in his ears and throat. He has an ear infection in both ears, and a throat infection. And probably a sinus infection too. He’s on antibiotics now and says he feels better. He slept 6 hours today during the day, so he’ll be able to go to work tomorrow. Hannah still has an ear infection, she’s started antibiotics for it–an antibiotic she’s had before that worked without side effects.

And Clara, little Clara. The pediatrician said she’s doing better. But still wheezing in her lower lungs or something like that. She’s taking breathing treatments of albuterol, a high dose , what an adult would normally take. So a couple more days of that, then we switch to a lower dose of xopenex, which is similar to albuterol, without causing as much jitters. Also MUCH more expensive. Eventually she’ll switch back down to the infant dose of xopenex, but it may be several weeks before she doesn’t need the treatments. We’re going back to the doctor tomorrow and Friday so the doctor can listen to her breathing.

I’m feeling ok. Burned out. Tired. No six hour nap for me. Moms don’t get sick days, even when we are sick. I want to go to bed now. But Clara’s still awake. She’s not been taking bottles very well, so I feel like I should stay awake to feed her until she goes to sleep. I need some space.

I already told Clint that I’m gonna need some time off on Saturday.I hope he’s well enough to manage that by then.

ER visit

I took Clara to the pediatrician yesterday because she got the cold that Hannah had. Hannah’s went to her ears, but Clara has a lot of chest congestions. I have been giving Clara breathing treatments every four hours. It was helping, but not helping as much as I thought.

Clara’s wheezing was worse today… Took her to her pediatrician again, and she recommended I take her to the ER. I did. They did chest xrays and tested her for Respiratory syncytial virus. She does have RSV. The ER doctor said it will take 4 to 6 weeks for her to get better.

Hannah probably had/has the same thing, but because she’s older, it seems like a cough, runny nose like any other cold. I called the babysitter to let her know that I won’t be bringing Clara. She doesn’t want me to bring Hannah either because she thinks Hannah will carry the germs there. Um… that’s where the germs came from. One of the other kids has a cough and runny nose too. But she is 2 so the dr probably wouldn’t test her for rsv cause symptoms of any other cold look the same.

a bear of a trip

Wow. 828 visitors. You guys have been busy visiting my page… and I’ve been busy…

So we’re home now. Hannah was sick most of the trip. And understandably, a bear because of it.

glassy eyes

Clara was getting sick the night before we came home. She’s taking breathing treatments now.

 foursome

I did get some skiing in during the trip, once I even skied with Clint while the girls napped. My mom was there to take care of them when they woke up.

This is my brother with his wife and their baby who is 13 days younger than Clara.

Someone’s happy to be on the mountain! I really enjoyed spending time with my brother and his wife in the lodge and on the slopes, and with my best friend. We wouldn’t have made it through the airport, to the lodge, or through the trip without her. I didn’t make it out of the lodge to visit with other people who were there, and I regret that. The time flew with taking care of a sick two year old and an infant. But there will be other times I hope.  My mom is hoping we’ll come home for Easter, but I haven’t pushed the cause with Clint yet. Right now any sort of travel is out of the question, especially any that includes flying or driving with the girls.

In other news, it turns out I cannot go back to work early. They gave the sub a contract through April 5, then we have Spring Break. So I will enjoy the next 3 weeks with the girls. It’s better that I’m home to care for Clara while she’s getting over the cold we all have had.

pack the tylenol

Hannah stopped vomiting on Friday. She started having diarrhea yesterday. Today she’s got a sore throat, cough, and a runny nose. Probably an ear infection. I’m taking her to the doctor tomorrow. And we’re flying on Tuesday. Pack the tylenol. If we could postpone the trip, I would. But it’s sort of a now or never thing. The flight will be longer than what she’s used to, but I’m packing some fun activities for her. This will be Clara’s first flight. I’m not really worried about how she’ll do. I took Hannah on flights at this age, and she was a peach. Hopefully Clara will be too.

Last night, Clara slept from 10:30 until 6:45 a.m. Eight hours. Wow. I don’t think she’ll sleep like that on the trip because she won’t have her Amby bed and we’ll all 4 be in the same room. Hannah also slept really well last night, thank goodness, because she had spent a couple hours awake during the night the night before. I think she was hungry but we couldn’t give her milk yet. She ate some cereal, and then had a few stories, and went back to bed eventually. Yesterday she only took a short nap too. Probably got her started too late.
