First I love you

A couple of nights ago, I put Hannah to bed the way I always do. When I said, "Good night, sleep tight, I love you," like I always do, she responded with something new.

"I love you," she said.

Green bean casserole and blondies

Happy Thanksgiving! We’re going to my aunt’s house to eat, then to my husband’s parents’ house to eat some more. I’m already a strange combination of hungry and full. Attribute that to being 31 weeks pregnant.

We had a big discussion last night about the color and theme of the playroom. We’re converting the office to a playroom for the girls so that when Clara comes we have a room she can sleep in until she’s sleeping through the night. Then the girls will share a room for sleeping and a room for playing. We haven’t cleared our plans with Hannah yet.  We decided on purple. Vibrant. Girly. Dark purple on the bottom and a lavender-ish shade on top. We’re going to do zoo animals in bright shades as a border. We found some wildlife pictures at Ikea. This is the bed I want for Hannah. It shows as a crib but it converts to a toddler bed. When the playroom is done, we’ll move her bookshelf and rocking chair in there, and put both beds in Hannah’s room. She can go back and forth between them until she’s accustomed to the new bed, a big girl bed. Clara will sleep in the bassinet and pack and play until Hannah is adjusted to her big bed and then Clara can have the crib we currently have. I would change the crib we have to a toddler bed for Hannah, but I don’t like the way it looks. It would be set up like a daybed with the crib slats on 3 sides. Besides, it’s higher from the ground. So if she falls out, she has farther to fall.

Time for me to go take a shower and get ready. Gotta find some stretchy pants. Have a great Thanksgiving.

earache, “How ’bout that”

Our trip home was eventful. We took a short trip to my folks’ for my sister-in-law’s baby shower. She is due 6 days after me. We saw family there, but it was too quick a trip to see everyone I would have liked to see. We did bring home one unwelcome guest. Hannah got an ear infection. Her doctor said that flying probably caused it because she was already sick when we went there. She’s been on antibiotics for a little over a week. I’m glad her doctor doesn’t give immunizations when she’s sick. Hopefully when I take her back on the 28th she’ll be ok to get them as she’s overdue by 2 months already…

Since we’ve been back, I’ve had parent teacher conferences and students have received their report cards. Things went well first quarter, but I’ve already seen a downward trend for several of my students. Now I’m working on recommendations for next year for my 8th graders who will be going to high school. It seems awfully early to do those, but I can update students’ recommendations if they show a huge improvement or fall back significantly.

I’ve been feeling alright. Huge sometimes. I think I’m retaining water among other things. I hate to read the pregancy books and websites that could tell me what symptoms to expect…I tend to read it then start feeling it even if I wasn’t before. It’s hard for me to believe that I only have the rest of November, December, and 3 weeks in January before the baby comes. I think we are settled on a name, a first name at least. No middle name agreement has been reached. And I’m not expecting one. Clint says if the ultrasound is wrong and we have a boy, we’re naming him Clint also. I’m not sure how I feel about that…two people by one name in one house strikes me as confusing. But it’s not to him because he grew up with that situation. There have to be other boys’ names we could agree on.

Right now Hannah’s sitting on one leg of my lap writing with a marker in a notebook. Her hand-eye coordination is improving but she’s still getting marks on her shirt. I am choosing to remind her gently to write on the paper. I am willing to sacrifice one shirt for one blog entry today. I have some cute videos of her antics on the bed a few nights ago, talking, singing, counting. I will try to get them posted if I can sweet talk Clint into giving the bath. I also have to enter grades tonight which requires me to use the computer. Too bad my folder and files are in the other room, or I could be doing it now. Getting up though to get them would dispel the magic that is enabling me to type out this one entry.

One funny thing…Hannah says, "How ’bout that" when we’re in the store or at home. If she wants something. She hears me say, "How about some bread," when I toss the bread in the cart, or "How about some juice," when we get home from work/school/daycare. So she’s picked up the lingo I guess. She does repeat so many things. She talks a lot. It went from a countable number of words to phrases and sentences that can often be deciphered. She’s changed a lot in just a short time.
